31 Jul Coyle on Cars | Pamela Coyle Electric-Car Companies Mark Earth Day With Promotions
Electric-car manufacturers are falling all over themselves today to wish me “Happy Earth Day.” I’d love to think my first column made a splash but a few weeks ago I just simply signed up for the latest electric-vehicle news from Chevy, Tesla and Nissan.
Nissan Leaf pre-orders started Tuesday, April 20, over the Internet, which kept the all-electric hatchback in the public eye. Chevrolet used Earth Day to release new “never-before-seen-photos” of the Volt, plug VoltAge, its online community of Volt enthusiasts, pitch a blog entry from Chevy General Manager Jim Campbell and announce a contest sponsored by Wired.com to test-drive a Volt at Milford Proving Grounds.
Tesla weighed in a bit later in the day, and I learned that “Dayko No Nai” is Japanese for “No compromise.” I hope Tesla doesn’t mind if I borrow that in my business or marital negotiations. Tesla, too, sent Earth Day greetings and announced 12 Signature Edition Roadster Sports are on their way by ship to Japan for sale to “an exclusive group of Japanese enthusiasts.”
